Scripture consistently distinguishes the Father from the Son — the Trinity doctrine has no Bible basis
Jesus consistently spoke of himself as subordinate to his Father. He said plainly: 'The Father is greater than I am.' (John 14:28) If they were co-equal, this statement would be false. Jesus also said: 'I am going to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.' (John 20:17) Jesus called the Father 'my God' — proving the Father held a higher position.
At Gethsemane, Jesus prayed: 'Father, if you want to, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, let, not my will, but yours take place.' (Luke 22:42) Two separate wills — the Father's and the Son's — cannot exist within one being. This prayer only makes sense if they are distinct persons.
The Bible never uses the word 'Trinity.' The Shema of Israel declares: 'Listen, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah.' (Deuteronomy 6:4) Paul reaffirmed: 'There is actually to us one God, the Father, from whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are.' (1 Corinthians 8:6) God and Lord are named separately — the Father is God; Jesus is Lord.
Jesus himself identified the Father as the 'only true God.' (John 17:3) The word 'only' excludes any other person from that title — including Jesus himself. If Jesus were part of a triune God, calling the Father the 'only true God' would exclude himself from deity.
The Bible calls Jesus 'the firstborn of all creation' (Colossians 1:15) and 'the beginning of the creation by God.' (Revelation 3:14) These titles indicate Jesus had a beginning. He was the first being Jehovah created, and then 'by means of him all other things were created.' (Colossians 1:16) Jesus is supreme among creation — but still part of it.
Proverbs 8:22-30 personifies wisdom as saying: 'Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his way, the earliest of his achievements of long ago.' This passage, understood as foreshadowing Christ, shows that the Son was brought forth before anything else existed — not that he always existed alongside the Father.
