God's Kingdom — What Is It?

A real government in heaven that will rule over a paradise earth

A Heavenly Government

The Kingdom of God is not a condition in the heart — it is a real government. Daniel prophesied: 'The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin… it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever.' (Daniel 2:44) This kingdom has a king (Jesus Christ), subjects, laws, and territory — the earth itself.

Jesus taught his disciples to pray: 'Let your Kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth.' (Matthew 6:10) This prayer implies that the Kingdom's rule will one day extend to earth, transforming it just as heaven already reflects God's perfect will.

What the Kingdom Will Accomplish

Under God's Kingdom, the earth will be transformed into a paradise. Revelation 21:3-4 promises: 'God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.' Disease, death, war, poverty — all will be eliminated.

Isaiah 65:21-22 paints a picture of life under the Kingdom: 'They will build houses and live in them, and they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.' Peaceful coexistence between humans and animals is also promised: 'The wolf and the lamb will feed together.' (Isaiah 65:25)
