The True Identity of Jesus Christ — What the Bible Really Reveals

By Alexi, a Jehovah's Witness and Bible student · April 3, 2026

Most people have been taught that Jesus is God Almighty. But what did Jesus say about himself? A careful look at the Scriptures reveals a consistent and compelling answer.

Most people have been taught that Jesus is God Almighty. But what did Jesus say about himself? And what does the rest of the Bible consistently tell us? Let's look at the scriptures and let them speak. 📖

Jesus Said He Was Created

Revelation 3:14 — Jesus calls himself "the beginning of the creation of God." Not the creator. The beginning of creation. The Greek word is arkhē — meaning origin, beginning, first. He's telling us he was the first thing Jehovah brought into existence.

Jesus Called Himself the Bright Morning Star

Revelation 22:16 — "I am the bright morning star." Now go to Job 38:1–7 where Jehovah describes the foundation of the earth and says "the morning stars joyfully cried out together, and all the sons of God began shouting in applause." The morning stars are angelic sons of God who already existed before the earth was made. Jesus identifies himself as the chief one among them — the bright morning star.

The Firstborn, Not the Almighty

Colossians 1:15 — Paul calls Jesus "the firstborn of all creation." Firstborn means he had a beginning. John 1:14 calls him "the only-begotten Son." John 3:16 says God "gave his only-begotten Son." Begotten means produced. Generated. The Father produced the Son. That's not equality — that's origin.

Proverbs 8:22–30 says "Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his way, the earliest of his achievements." Many early Christians understood this as the pre-human Jesus — the first creation, the master worker alongside Jehovah through whom everything else was made.

What Does "Archangel" Actually Mean?

The word archangel comes from the Greek arkhángelos. The prefix arkh- means "first" or "chief" — the exact same root as arkhē in Revelation 3:14. And ángelos means angel. So archangel literally means first angel, chief angel, the original angel. Not just high-ranking. The first one created.

The Bible names only ONE archangel — Michael (Jude 9). And 1 Thessalonians 4:16 says Jesus descends from heaven "with an archangel's voice." There's only one archangel. Jesus speaks with his voice. Because he IS that archangel.

Michael and Jesus — The Same Person

Look at the parallels:

  • 🔹 Michael is called a great prince (Daniel 12:1). A figure appears to Joshua and calls himself "the prince of Jehovah's army" (Joshua 5:14) — and tells Joshua to remove his sandals because the ground is holy, just like Jehovah's angel told Moses at the burning bush.
  • 🔹 Michael leads the angels in battle against Satan (Revelation 12:7). After his resurrection, all angels and authorities were made subject to Jesus (1 Peter 3:22).
  • 🔹 Michael stands up to protect God's people during the time of the end (Daniel 12:1). Jesus returns as King during the time of the end.
  • 🔹 Michael is the archangel (Jude 9). Jesus descends with the archangel's voice (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

Two separate beings doing the exact same things? Or one being with two names — his heavenly name Michael and his earthly name Jesus?

The Angel of Jehovah

Throughout the Old Testament a figure called "the angel of Jehovah" speaks with divine authority, even in the first person as Jehovah. He stops Abraham from sacrificing Isaac (Genesis 22:11–12). He appears in the burning bush (Exodus 3:2–4). He appears to Manoah who says "we have seen God" (Judges 13:3–22). Exodus 23:20–21 says of this angel "my name is in him." This isn't just any angel. This is Jehovah's chief representative — his firstborn Son carrying his Father's name and authority.

It All Points to One Conclusion

Jesus said he was created (Revelation 3:14). He called himself the bright morning star (Revelation 22:16), linking himself to the angelic sons of God (Job 38:7). Paul called him the firstborn of all creation. John called him the only-begotten. The word archangel itself means first angel — the same root word Jesus used to describe himself as the beginning of creation. He descends with the archangel's voice. He is the prince of Jehovah's army. He is the angel who carried Jehovah's name.

He is not God Almighty. He is God's first creation, his beloved Son, the master worker, and the appointed King of God's Kingdom.

Everything the Bible says about him is consistent — if you let the Bible speak for itself. Do what the Beroeans did in Acts 17:11 — examine the Scriptures daily and see whether these things are so. 🙏
