If Sharing God's Nature Makes You God, Then We Have a Problem

Trinitarians argue Jesus must be Almighty God because he shares the Father's nature. But Scripture says anointed Christians will share divine nature too — and nobody calls them God. The argument collapses.

# If Sharing God's Nature Makes You God, Then We Have a Problem **Does "sharing the Father's nature" make someone Almighty God? Trinitarians often argue that because Jesus shares the Father's divine nature, he must be Almighty God. But this argument proves far too much—because Scripture clearly teaches that anointed Christians will also share divine nature, have bodies like Christ's, and reign as kings with him.** Let's examine what Paul and the other apostles actually taught. --- ## Transformation Into Spirit Bodies Like Christ ### 1 Corinthians 15:42-49 — The Resurrection Body > "So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised up in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised up in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised up in power. It is sown a physical body, it is raised up a **spiritual body**... The first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam became a **life-giving spirit**... Just as we have borne the image of the one made of dust, **we will bear also the image of the heavenly one**." Paul couldn't be clearer. Those with the heavenly hope will receive spiritual bodies—the same type of body Christ has. They will "bear the image of the heavenly one." ### 1 Corinthians 15:50-53 — Flesh Cannot Inherit the Kingdom > "**Flesh and blood cannot inherit God's Kingdom**, nor does corruption inherit incorruption... We will all be changed, in a moment, in the blink of an eye... the dead will be raised up incorruptible, and we will be changed. For this which is corruptible must put on incorruption, and this which is mortal must put on **immortality**." The anointed will put on immortality—the same quality that belongs to God himself (1 Timothy 6:16). Does that make them Almighty God? Obviously not. ### Philippians 3:20-21 — Bodies Like Christ's Glorious Body > "But our citizenship exists in the heavens, from which we are also eagerly waiting for a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will **transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body** by the power that enables him to subject all things to himself." This is devastating to the Trinitarian argument. Paul explicitly says anointed Christians will have bodies **like Christ's glorious body**. If having a body like Christ's makes you equal to the Father, then the 144,000 are also equal to the Father. ### Romans 8:29 — Conformed to Christ's Image > "For those whom he foreknew he also **predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son**, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers." Notice: Jesus is the "firstborn among many brothers." The anointed will be conformed to his image—sharing his nature, his glory, his type of existence. Yet they remain his "brothers," not his equals. ### 2 Corinthians 5:1-4 — Heavenly Dwelling > "For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, should be dissolved, we have **a building from God, a house not made with hands, everlasting in the heavens**. For in this dwelling we do indeed groan, earnestly desiring to put on our dwelling from heaven." Paul longed for his heavenly spirit body—an everlasting dwelling from God. Same type of existence as Christ. Still not Almighty God. ### Colossians 3:4 — Appear with Christ in Glory > "When the Christ, our life, is made manifest, then you also will be **made manifest with him in glory**." The anointed will share Christ's glory. Does sharing glory make them God? No—it makes them glorified creatures. --- ## Co-Heirs With Christ — Reigning as Kings ### Romans 8:17 — Joint Heirs with Christ > "If, then, we are children, we are also heirs—**heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ**—provided we suffer together so that we may also be glorified together." Joint heirs. They inherit alongside Christ. They share in his inheritance, his glory, his kingdom. Yet Paul never suggests they become Almighty God. ### 2 Timothy 2:12 — Reign with Him > "If we go on enduring, **we will also rule together as kings** with him." Kings—plural. Ruling with Christ, not as Christ. Sharing his royal authority without sharing his identity. ### 1 Corinthians 6:2-3 — Judging the World and Angels > "Do you not know that **the holy ones will judge the world**?... Do you not know that **we will judge angels**?" The anointed will judge angels—spirit creatures far more powerful than humans. Does this judicial authority make them Almighty God? Of course not. Authority is delegated, not absorbed. --- ## Other Apostles Confirm the Same ### 1 John 3:2 — We Will Be Like Him > "Beloved ones, we are now children of God, but it has not yet been made manifest what we will be. We do know that when he is made manifest **we will be like him**, because we will see him just as he is." John says it plainly: "We will be like him." Like Christ. Same type of existence. Same glorified nature. Yet John never concludes that this makes anyone Almighty God. ### 2 Peter 1:4 — Partakers of Divine Nature > "Through these he has given us the precious and very grand promises, so that through these you may become **partakers of divine nature**, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world through lust." Here's the knockout verse. Peter explicitly says Christians become "partakers of divine nature." If sharing divine nature makes the Son Almighty God, then by the same logic, every anointed Christian becomes Almighty God. But that's absurd—and no one argues it. ### Revelation 5:10 — Kings and Priests > "You made them to be **a kingdom and priests** to our God, and they are to **rule as kings** over the earth." Kings and priests—serving God, not becoming God. Ruling under Christ's authority, not independently. ### Revelation 20:6 — Reign 1,000 Years > "Happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be **priests of God and of the Christ, and they will rule as kings** with him for the 1,000 years." Notice: they are priests "of God and of the Christ." They serve both Jehovah and Jesus. They don't become either one. --- ## The Summary | What Scripture Says | Implication | |---------------------|-------------| | Anointed ones receive **spiritual bodies** (1 Cor 15:44) | They become spirit creatures like Christ | | They bear **the image of the heavenly one** (1 Cor 15:49) | Same nature as the glorified Christ | | Bodies transformed to be **like his glorious body** (Phil 3:21) | Same type of existence | | They become **partakers of divine nature** (2 Pet 1:4) | Share God's nature—but aren't God | | They will **reign as kings** with Christ (2 Tim 2:12, Rev 5:10) | Royal position, not divine identity | | They will **judge angels** (1 Cor 6:3) | Authority, not ontological equality | --- ## The Knockout Point **If sharing Christ's "nature" makes someone Almighty God, then:** - The 144,000 become Almighty God (2 Peter 1:4, 1 John 3:2) - All anointed Christians become Almighty God (Philippians 3:21, 1 Corinthians 15:49) **But nobody argues that.** So "sharing nature" ≠ identity. The Son shares the Father's spirit nature—just as the anointed will share Christ's spirit nature—but none of them become the one Almighty God, Jehovah. The Father alone holds that title. And Jesus himself confirmed it: > "This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, **the only true God**, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ." — John 17:3 --- ## Conclusion The Trinitarian argument from "shared nature" collapses under its own weight. Scripture consistently teaches that anointed Christians will: - Receive spiritual bodies like Christ's - Bear the image of the heavenly one - Partake of divine nature - Reign as kings and priests - Judge the world and angels None of this makes them Almighty God. And it doesn't make Jesus Almighty God either. What it *does* show is that Jehovah is generous—sharing his glory, his nature, his kingdom with those who love him. The Son is the "firstborn among many brothers" (Romans 8:29), the first to receive this glorious inheritance, with millions more to follow. That's not Trinity doctrine. That's Bible truth. --- *What questions do you have about this topic? Leave a comment below or join the discussion in our community forums.*
