About this song

A gospel ballad rooted in Psalm 23 — Jehovah as the Shepherd who restores the soul, leads through the valley of the shadow, and whose loyal love pursues the worshiper every day. The verses widen out into Psalm 19's heavens telling of Jehovah's glory and the law that is sweeter than honey, and the bridge draws on Psalm 103 — the God who forgives every error, heals every disease, and shows a father's mercy. The final chorus lifts into Psalm 148's call for all the angels and all creation to praise Jehovah's holy name.

Lyrics

Verse 1

Jehovah is my Shepherd, I ain't gonna want for a thing

He lays me down in green pastures, makes my weary soul sing

Beside the quiet waters, He restores this heart of mine

And He leads me down the path of righteousness, one step at a time

Chorus

Oh, Jehovah (Jehovah)

You're my Shepherd, You're my song

Through the valley, through the shadow

With You, Lord, I can't go wrong

Your loyal love is chasing me

Every morning, every night

And I'll dwell in the house of Jehovah

Long as there's breath and light

Verse 2

The heavens keep on telling of the glory of Your name

The sun comes up rejoicing like a bridegroom all aflame

And the law of my Jehovah, it's perfect, it is sweet

Sweeter than the honeycomb, oh Lord, at Your feet

Chorus

Oh, Jehovah (Jehovah)

You're my Shepherd, You're my song

Through the valley, through the shadow

With You, Lord, I can't go wrong

Your loyal love is chasing me

Every morning, every night

And I'll dwell in the house of Jehovah

Long as there's breath and light

Bridge

slower, organ swell

You forgive all my errors

You heal all my disease

As far as the sunrise from the sunset

That's how far You carried my pleas

Like a father shows his children mercy

That's how You show mercy to me

Oh, praise Jehovah, oh my soul

For all eternity

Final Chorus

key change up a half step, backing vocals full

Oh, Jehovah (Jehovah!)

You're my Shepherd, You're my song

Praise Him, all you angels

Praise Him, all creation strong

Bless Jehovah, oh my soul

Bless His holy name

From the rising of the sun to its setting

Bless His holy name

Outro

ad-lib fade

Jehovah... Jehovah... my Shepherd, my God...

Bless His holy name, oh...
